Found a local ad for one of these. Kind of unusually funky. Wondering if the chassis is a Fairlane platform or ??? Its bigger than the 63 Comets, but smaller than the full size Merc's. Was thinking it might make an unusal wedge or possibly cammer car ?. Anybody know anything about these things ?

Maybe have a car show pic of one ??.

Anybody remember these things racing back in the day ?

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

Bob

I remember racing a black 4 speed Meteor on the street years and years ago.
Years ago I was working with a jovial fellow who told me about the Meteor he used to have... same guy. Short lived Mercury Fairlane intermediate. I also knew of a wagon locally.

See link, no FE but a color-coded fan

Nice idea, paint the fan to match the valve covers/air cleaner. In reality I bet it was black, might be hard to keep clean -

The Meteor was a stretched Fairlane, a couple inches longer and a bit heavier, very slow. Actually, with a 390 HiPo it would have been a good performer but no dice.

I just did google on Mercury Meteor, lots of good info -

Meteor

A 63 Meteor is based on a 63 Fairlane but with a few item to Mercurize it. Great looking cars in my opinion.

The suspension is quite similar to the goofy 62-65 Fairlane stuff but with some even goofier parts than that.

There are shackles at both ends of the leaf springs too.
Weight is maybe a little more than a Fairlane hardtop so about 3200 with a smallblock. They are interesting cars but not fetching big dollars.
