Did anyone see barry woods finish on Sunday,35 yard screamer or what.
& with such a small crowd on sunday when the team came out i've never heard an atmosphere like it at the RSC or anywhere, they are the real fans , we probably had more in Longford than we did against HFF, but that roar was in the words of a great philosopher "MAD"
The BTID site has been completely redesigned its really worth a look now so visit http://btid.iwarp.com
Come on Blues its not over yet we can do it, as a great man once said Keep The Faith.
OK I know it's a long shot,but...after last nights games,if we win our last 3 games(and I know that's a big IF) and Monaghan don't beat Limerick in their last game,we will get at least the playoff spot,so come on Blues one last push and..well you never know.
If we beat Sligo and Athlone we'll finish ahead of Athlone on Goal difference and if Monaghan dont beat Limerick away we'll finish ahead of them as well. We'll be at least 3rd, and then there's the possibility that Sligo will cock up leaving us 2nd. Thats not a long shot and a flutter on automatic promotion might be a good bet cause I'm sure Paddy Power hasn't worked out these permutations and might offer generous odds thinking he'll make a quick and easy buck.
Is it the end of promotion hopes for the blues?.Twice off the woodwork, a misfortunate incident resulting in the loss of Brendan Rea, 80% of the possesion, was it unlucky or the inability the stick the shagging thing in the net???
As Cloughie once said, if you dont have 5 or 6 men who'll go through a brick wall for you, you're wasting your time.
I thought we had a few of them out there last night in Frosty, Rennie, Kevin Whittle and Kirbs. But why the high ball again and again?, there was no way we were going to score a header against that defence. Well done to PP on a good decision to play 3-3-3 after Brendan was sent off, it certainly put the shits up Dundalk. I'd say Rennie has a few bumps and bruises today!
See the Examiners report below;
Waterford United 1
Dundalk 2
FOLLOWING an uneventful 45 minutes, a sensational start to the second half set this Eircom League first division game alight in the Regional Sports Centre last night.
Within 90 seconds Waterford took the lead when Alan Kirby rifled home a penalty after Aaron Moroney was taken down by Ian Hill.
Straight from the kick off Dundalk surged into attack, and they levelled a minute later. Brendan Rea was shown the red card as he handled a goalbound shot from John Ryan and David Crawley rattled in the penalty.
John Frost cleared off the Waterford line as Anthony Fennelly parried a shot from David Hoey, but Dundalk struck a killer blow when they took the lead after 54 minutes.
A cross from John Flanagan was headed down by Ryan into the path of David Ward, who smacked home a left footed drive from 12 yards.
Waterford’s 10 men tried desperately to retrieve the situation but they were unable to break down the solid Dundalk defence.
The result kept Dundalk out front in the race for First Division honours but it probably dealt a killer blow to Waterford’s promotion hopes.
WATERFORD UNITED: Fennelly, O’Brien, Breen, Rea, Frost, Kirby, Whittle, Reynolds, Waters, Bradley, Moroney. Subs: Cashin for Waters (half time); Watson and Leahy for Cashin and Whittle (70).
DUNDALK: McKenna, Hill, Crawley, Callaghan, Gollogley, Hoey, Flanagan, Reilly, Ryan, Dunne, Ward. Sub: Mullen for Ward (73 mins).
Referee: A. Buttimer (Cork).
I noticed at the recent game in Cobh, how much we are missing out on a good atmosphere at our home games. We have the best attendances in the 1st division, and probably the worst atmosphere. What a tidy little set up they have in Cobh, and despite the dreadful surface, dreadful fans, and the misfortune of signing Donal Golden, if they were getting 1000 people in there every weekend, I certainly wouldnt relish the prospect of going there needing points. What a slip up by the club not to have bought Kilcohan 20 or 30 years ago. What do the supporters think? Are we sacrificing too much just to have a ground with a real tunnel and a 'corporate lounge'?!! My suggestion would be to develop Ozier Park, one of the finest surfaces this side of the Missisippi. Throw in a bit of concrete at the far end, theres your terraces, lengthen the stand, put in 200 seats and you have a ground worthy of the Eircoms finest. I know that makes it sound easier than it is, we all know the club are in dire need of hard currency, but is it worth looking at these things? I'm sick of hardly being able to see the numbers on the backs of the boys in blue.
