I have rarely agreed with this guy on anything.

I think he is a great actor, but his politics, well lets just say I usually tell him to shut up, and make another movie for me.

But this time, I have to say, keep it up Sean, great work.

US actor and director Sean Penn lit up and led a minor revolt at the Cannes film festival against France's draconian new anti-smoking laws.
Penn, the head of the jury that will pick the best films, pulled out a cigarette and puffed on it at a press conference with fellow jury members, in defiance of laws in place since January that ban smoking in public enclosed spaces.

He only took a couple of drags before putting it aside and getting back to answering reporters' questions.

But jury member Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian director clearly inspired by her colleague's defiance, then asked to much laughter if anyone minded if she smoked "for medical reasons."

She then lit a cigarette, with Penn and French actress Jeanne Balibar quickly following suit.

That article says it all.

That is what needs to be done to people who love to push to stop others from having freedoms.

C'mon, Brad, he's still Sean Penn for cryin' out loud!

He'd be all over the smoking ban with the rest of the left if he *didn't* smoke like a chimney, don't ya think? It really has nothing to do with politics as much as it has to do with his nicotine addiction.

You are right

If he was not a smoker, he probably would be on the anti smoking band wagon.

I have no doubt in my mind you are right.

But still I take pleasure in three facts.

One he is spitting the eye of his own people by doing this.

Two, he has a taste of what to many rules, and regulations lead too.

Three, he has the clout to stand up to this type of thing in a country that would not dare to go after an internation film star. Cannes is after all in France, left leaning celebrities are like gods over there. So to do something to him would almost bring down the complete French Government.

I still think it is funny.

Yeah, I see your point.

I think France might be getting wise to the detriments of socialism, though with the election of Nicholas Sarkozy.
