'AIRGUNITUS' or 'AIRRIFLEITUS' ... aka ...An itch I have to keep scratching

Damn this Airgun disease has seized me firmly in it's addictive grasp .....

I spent most of my childhood and teen years in the UK shooting airguns ... very fond memories of roaming the woods, fields etc etc

Plenty of Rabbit, Pigeons, Starlings and Rats - mostly with BSA Meteor - iron sights - ah those were the days !

20 years later I find myself happily married, 4 small children, living in Los Angeles and making movies for a living... so what the hey I thought it'd be fun to try an airgun again, so off to Walmart I went and bought a scoped Daisy .177 Powerline 1000 ... yeah , yeah not the usual 1st choice ...

I hadn't even shot a tin of pellets through it before the disease struck me down hard - It was like I was a recovering alcoholic - sober for 20 years - who just downed a 6 pack of beer with a bottle of whiskey as the chaser .....

I've seriously fallen off the wagon ...

a few months later and now I find myself the proud owner of a RWS 54, an Evanix AR6, BSA Sportsman / Hornet HV, a Beni Discovery and a Beeman P1 in .177 the rifles are all .22.... and I still have the Powerline that started it all !

and owning them doesn't seem to be enough , now all I can think about is moding them, shrouding them, and shooting them....

Help...what's happening to me !

I think there are others on the forum who are also suffering with the same disease -

Rick Peterson in particular

I think it's call 'airrifleitus' I looked it up on webmd and it states that it is the 'obsessive compulsive desire to hoard, covert, shoot and modify airrifles. Cure as yet unknown.'

Perhaps we should start a self help support group for the afflicted -

all donations gratefully accepted .... as I'm now on the lookout for a FX Tarantula in Walnut....

ahhhhhhhhhh when will it end..... wait ....why am I writing this ...... I need to go scour the classifieds....

You're quite correct....Rick does have a particularly accute infection. That "itch" is just the first symptom and soon becomes one hell of a rash. I wonder if there is a possible genetic disposition that makes some people more suceptable than others. Unfortunately, though there is no cure....only treatment with more air guns, but the good news is that it isn't terminal, only expensive :?)

We already have an AA (Airgunners Anonymous) support group....

....right here! It is the yellow forum, and we are all afflicted with this (fortunate) malady. We meet here all the time.

The standard greeting is:

Robert: "Hi, my name is James and I'm an airgunner"

Group response: "Hi James......"

Hey, it could be worse. You could be out patronizing titty bars (politically correct term is "breast lounge") and drinking. The only reason we aren't is that they won't allow us to shoot airguns in between the dances! LOL.

Best regards,
Mark Kauffman
