American Airguns Classified Ad Format

I have had a lot of comments about the new format of the classified ads on my site. Many have remarked that they liked the old format better with all the ads listed on the page so that they could quickly scan the ads.

My question is this, which format do you prefer? The current format is this one:

http://www.airguns.net/classifieds/classifieds.php

The same data could be displayed like this:

http://www.airguns.net/classifieds/classifieds_alt.php

The sort features would work the same (they don't work on the alt page right now) and all the other features would be the same. What version do you like better? I want to make the page easy to use and read so please let me know. Thanks.

I prefer the new format Brad...

it's very easy on the eyes and simple to scan. If one wants to know more, simply mousing over will display the details.

Thank you for the service.

new (top link) format personally bc im not bombarded with details that are NOT important like the old format.

This new format allows me to sort thru interests if any, then i can simply hover over the link and more details pop up.

I prefer the new format

Format:
The current format makes it easier to find an item of interest. Once I find something I like (& can't afford) I can click the link for more info & frustration. Works for me.

Archives:
The ad archives were great from the old site. They gave you an idea of current prices for items, & several times I was able to pick up something by digging thru older ads in the archives.

FWIW, Thank You for a great airgun site...I check it daily (I believe I have done so since about 1995 or 1996) & have managed to snag many good deals over the years.

New Format ROCKS! Don't change it back.

July 9 2008, 12:42 AM

Much nicer being able to streamline rifles vs wanted vs for sale... hold over the post and it peekaboos the ad.. It is great!

Do need to put it the correct link on the top of the Forum page however.

July 9 2008, 12:44 AM

and say I much prefer the second one. It gives more info at a glance, without having to follow a link to get the info. Lazy? doubt it. Just like it better.

I like the new one after just a little bit of getting used to it

July 9 2008, 1:01 AM

I'd let people use the new one for a week or two before considering a lot of changes based on comments. Everyone's gonna have different preferences so changing things for one person (or a few) at this point could just end up irritating another group of people.

Do you remember

July 9 2008, 1:34 AM

the 'airgun ads' newsletter? I forget the guys name, Able maybe? Well, I really liked his publication, I'd get it every month or so, scan the ads. But, all the old guys that listed stuff, they died or got too old to keep posting ads. And the kids, they don't know how to turn a page if its real paper. Thats kinda like your old site.

Your new site is lots easier to check on, don't need to open a new window to check an ad. Kids will get it, heck even I get it. I'd keep the new one if I were you. We need to keep several ad sites running, and yours is the oldest that I know of. Don't let it go down.

So, if you haven't guessed, I vote for the new format.

I think the new (current) format is best...

July 9 2008, 2:01 AM

although I believe a smaller font could be used. The big plus from my point of view is that I haven't noticed any of those garbage posts yet so I assume the new format helps keep them out --- good job!!

Once people learn how to use the new format it might be better

July 9 2008, 7:41 AM

It seems that not many people put pictures on the new format.  I guess they just haven't figured it out yet.

Use the single line format.............

July 9 2008, 8:03 AM

Easier to read at a glance and more adds per page. The other is just a redo of the old format.

Thanks Brad,

Scott

The new format is problematic with portable devices...

July 9 2008, 8:16 AM

I use my IPod at my office for personal web browsing, and the new format has problems when viewed on the small screen.

The pop-up text details won't go away so you have to reload the page to see the page again.

With the increase of the use of portable web devices, phones, IPods Iphone, etc., web designers will have to take into account the new way of browsing.

Plus, storing and displaying photos stored on YOUR servers can open you up to problems with the courts. Courts have ruled that images stored on outside servers and accessed through a full URL are exempt and "not the same as storing and serving photos within the controlled network".

Outside photos aren't your problem, photos on your server are.

Users like to not have to use an outside photo service...and lawyers like it to.

I find it just the opposite

July 9 2008, 8:22 AM

I use my cell phone for internet viewing and I was not able to view the old page but I can view the new one.

I don't know what makes one work and one not work.

The new format is so unwieldy, that I no longer look at those classifieds, since the new format went in. Just my opinion.
