Several weeks after Flight 800 was downed I heard a rumor on a broadcast of a very well known radio talk-show host. He mentioned the rumor once and I never heard anything about it again. I am not a conspiracy buff, but this rumor was especially disturbing whether or not it has any truth to it.
The rumor was basically as follows. Among those who had originally booked seats on TWA 800 were a two of the Arkansas State Troopers who had been involved in the Clinton Scandal(s) where they had been involved in securing (then) Governor Clinton female companionship when opportunities had arisen. The rumor continued by indicating that these two former troopers were travelling to Paris to be interviewed by journalists of a European news magazine, and had changed flights only a day or so before Flight 800 had gone down.
Personally I believe that Clinton covered up the shooting down of TWA 800 for the simplest of reasons (ie: so as not to allow the fact that terrorism had officially come to our own shores, and not allow himself to appear incompetent or lax on terrorism). But this particular rumor is to say the least, interesting.
There have been a number of 'rumours' about people on the aircraft - Ferat for one.
This is not the first time it has been suggested that 800 was a target of a certain 'serial killer'.
Clinton was/is very popular outside the USA - amongst western nations anyway - and the Monica affair did nothing to negate that popularity.
There is also a rumour that it was announced shortly after the incident that Clinton was to make a television announcement - that never took place.
If true, who changed his mind - he is the CIC after all?
Bill Donaldson claimed that BC rang the FBI post at Atlanta and announced that 800 had been shot down, it is also claimed that radar tapes were delivered to the WH.
One would expect the CIC to be interested in a potential shoot-down like this, along with his security/military staff.
One would think that if he were involved in what had happened, that he would distance himself from the event as much as possible, not jump in with both feet.

I agree with you (ie that if he was involved he'd want to distance himself, etc.). I only advanced the rumor because it sounded very curious and disturbing. To date, I haven't heard a single repeat of the rumor, not even on any of the internet forums I've checked out. As I said, I think that it was a terrorist missile fired at TWA 800 either at random, or because it was mistaken for another (perhaps EL-Al) flight, or perhaps there was some other reason yet unknown. I believe Clinton & his minions covered it up for the simplest of reasons (ie: because it would have been disastrous for him if the country suddenly woke up to the fact that international terrorism had come to our shores & the president looked impotent and indifferent to it just 3 1/2 months before an election).
I don't buy the "friendly fire/US Navy missile" theory. In addition to being a Long Island resident (I live about 30 miles from where 800 went down) I am also a licensed private pilot. That military warning area (#105) has been there for decades (before I got my private pilot's license in 1979) without any accidents. I personally don't think the Navy actually tests SAMs there. I grew up 2 miles from the old Grumman plant in Bethpage (where the built the LEM back in the '60s) They actually used to fly E-2 Hawkeyes out of there every day (the runway is now condos). If an accident like the one the "friendly fire" theorists envisioned was going to happen, it would have happened long ago.
Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I haven't been on this forum in a while. By the way, where in the UK are you located? I'm in Setauket on Long Island's north shore, between Stony Brook and Port Jefferson.
