Most of the animations I've seen show TWA 800's nose section (forward of the wing-root) detatching after the initial explosion. I've been wondering...was there enough fuel in the centre tank to begin with to cause such a large section of fuselage to detatch? Also, if it was a spark in the fuel tank, which ignited the fuel, wouldn't the tanks in the wings ignite immediately after? I know that valves can be opened and close to transfer fuel from one tank to another, but wouldn't an explosion which was capable of ripping the fuselage (practically) in half be able to rupture the other tanks as well? Maybe it was a missile attempt...I don't know...but does the fuel situation really add up? |
