Now I don't know if this has been posted before, so bare with me.
You have twelve tracks. What would you choose and perhaps a few reasons why. I have not decided yet what my choices are but will post over the weekend.
1/ CYGNET COMMITTEE---- my fav bowie song, love the slow start and build up to the desperation at the end.
2/ LIFE ON MARS------the song that got me into bowie and all time classic, from the greatest album ever made HUNKY DORY.
3/ WARZAWA ( live fron stage )---- this will be played at my funeral,an awesome piece of work, captures a sense of forlorn and deep sadness and bowie,s vocals still send shivers down my spine.
4/ FIVE YEARS ---- the lyric,s could be the prophecy of things to come, earth could be really be dying, chilling end for the world but the begining of the ride for ziggy stadust, and what a ride it was...( and love the placebo acoustic version )
5/ WIDTH OF A CIRCLE ( live version )----ronno,s guitars solo say no more
6/ WORD ON A WING------another that could feature at my funeral, ill make all them family members who critisised my fanatism of the man pay dearly.
7/ BOYS KEEP SWINGING-----a much overlooked bowie track, great beat and loud message, and with everything going on at the time ,bowie still manage to sound different when everyone around was trying to sound like bowie.
8/ EVERYONE SAYS HI----- the meaning behind the song is heartbreaking.
9/ HEROES-------represents an amazing time for bowie in music and introduced me to berlin.and i love berlin
10/ FALL DOG BOMBS THE MOON----- i just love it,i aint got a clue whats its about and dont care,i just sing my head of to it.
11/ MY DEATH-----one of the greatest live reactions ever to a song.." is me " from the audience.goosepimples everywhere, when ever you see that clip.
12/ LADY GRINNING SOUL------mike garson,s influence on Aladdinsane shines through in this track and sets the standard on another faultless bowie album......
trying to pick 12 tracks from so many..but great thread, and looking forward to reading other people,s selections.
love on ya

4. Lady Grinning Soul- Just beautiful.
5. Sweet thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing Reprise- Some of the Best Bowie Vocals Ever!
6. 1984- Stunning.

8. Wild Is The Wind- Still get goosebumps with this song.AMAZING.

"I Can't read and I can't write down"
James you made your list in 30 minutes. I'm still here 36 hours later and I am still chopping and changing.
Anyway, here goes ....
1. Subterraneans - I just go off into a dream listening to this, its just so mellow, the sax is sublime
2. Sweething - The Garson piano is pure class
3. Drive in Saturday - Love the nostalgic lyrics
4. Facination - The beat is brilliant, plus I think its a very sexy song
5. Station to Station - He sang this as the opener at my first db concert, what a build up. (Wembley 76)
6. We are the Dead - Ok, I've got a morbid streak
7. Everyone Says Hi - I never really got into this song. I spent 2 years solid in the Far East, after 18 months away I bought a dodgy copy of the album, when this came on I really did know I was home sick.
8. Moonage Daydream - One word ... Ronson !
9. 5.15 Angels Have Gone - The vocals
10. Quicksand - I don't think its possible not to adore this
11. Memory for a Free Festival - Its so sweet and innocent sounding and the lyrics are so creative.
Last but not least. I know you'll all have a chuckle at this inclusion. Yeah I admit it I'm a child, I never wanted to grow up but they made me ... lol !
12. Silly Boy Blue
Four very different selections. Its interesting to see just how varied they are. Thanks for the replies and all the fun posts over the weekend.
P.S. Baal, never say "It can't be done" !. There is always a way ! It ain't easy though.

If I had to choose 12 tracks from the available back catalogue (69- 89) for million of non fans to hear, to try to make them aware of Bowie's great back catalogue I would pick:
1. Space Oddity (you need 1 hit to get people to play the CD & this hasn't been played live in over 11 years.)
2. Memory Of A Free Festival (single version)
3. Saviour Machine
4. Quicksand
5. Star
6. Time
7. See Emily Play
8. Big Brother
9. A New Career In A New Town
10. Joe The Lion
12. Move On
12. Heroes (stage live version)
The 80's albums sold millions anyway, so I wouldn't worry about promoting them too much
EDIT: So tricky! I've missed out Young Americans & Station To Station - blasphemy!

Well I'd substitute 1984 for Moonage Daydream - love the wah-wah pedal!
Ant, I always thought Glass Spider would make a good single if it was condensed and somehow the spoken intro could be incorporated over the music, so back in January I cobbled this together...
I think these selections reflect our ages. Think I (am) must be the old guy ! Great selections, after my own selections I think my next selections would be very similar to james, but I might add Disco King, I adore Mike Garson.
