Which is the best of the "gender-bending stompers"... and all that goes with them? Both glam-pop favourites of radio djs, of mobile ringtones, of sofa fans

Tis a difficult choice, me thinks... Genie gets my vote for the "alien eyes" and "An' keeps all your dead hair for making up underwear", but then Rebel does for the "pirate" and "Hot tramp, I love you so!".

Maybe it's all down to that riff in the end, which gives Rebel the edge? What say you?

I like both songs but sometimes they are ruined when played live.
Best live versions for me,
Jean Genie-1976. Worst-1990
Rebel Rebel-1974. Worst-1990
Actually he ruined a lot of songs in 1990.

Cheers,
Jack

JG v RR

Listening to SM2 all the time at the moment I would choose that version of JG over RR. It's a fantastic version.

I'd say rebel rebel, because it doesn't share the same riff with the Sweet and Bowie plays the guitar himself.

Rebel Rebel because it's not as noisy. Noisy really isn't quite the right word but I don't like the "outrageous" bit in the chorus of Jean Genie. The vocals get too loud. In addition, because of my name it seems it's hilarious to apply it and change the line to "lives on HER back". Outrageous indeed! Jean Genie is much better in terms of words but musically Rebel Rebel is better and I suppose just shades in to victory.

Edit: If you wwant the thread to be on topic totally then pretend this bit isn't here. (Whisper - No probs MrTitchmarsh! and Sweety where's your Morrissey pictures woman! The frink thread isn't always enough )

Remember some time ago, a member here at BWW pointing out....

Hes so simple minded he cant drive HE'S MARC BOLAN
He bites on the neon and sleeps in the capsule
Loves to be loved, loves to be loved

After many listens i believe this to be true.
Well Jim Kerr DID take Simple Minds name from JG lyrics.

Jean...

A quick 'off topic' I need to get the pics on my 'puter (just haven't had time) and then I'll post them. A friend took some vids, so I'll see if I can get those off him.

PS: I've got a MOS cd for you -- do you want it or did you get the Irish one?
