O/T Remembering the Queen Mother

The Queen Mother (not her christened name) was born on the 4th of August 1900. Today would have been her 108th birthday, but she was tragically taken from us in 2002, cut down in her prime before she could even celebrate her 102nd birthday. I guess she could have received the telegram form her daughter on her 100th birthday. I was born on her 74th birthday.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Her original name) married Prince Albert in 1923, and she laid her bouquet at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior on her way into the Abbey, a gesture which has been repeated ever since. Elizabeth became the Queen when Albert was crowned King George the 6th in 1936, who died of lung cancer in 1952. She then became known as the Queen Mother & spent the last 50 years of her life as a widower. Even more tragically, she outlived her daughter Princess Margaret & died only 7 weeks after Margaret's passing, despite the Queen Mother's age, it could be said that she died of a broken heart.

I did some research and found some interesting pics:

Here she is with Bats:

Out on the town with Ardent

Visiting an exhibition of dresses used for TMWSTW cover shoot.

Visiting Ant's hospital

Recreating Bowie's infamous Victoria Station salute

& last but not least, meeting the wonderful KissMe

I'll raise a glass to her on the anniversary of her birth
