Reds Pitching...

Last year we all pretty much agreed we had the nucleus of a decent pitching staff with Harang and Arroyo -- all we needed was one more decent starter and a closer. So we get the Reds first legitimate contender for the Cy Young award since Wayne Simpson & Mario Soto, and Harang and Arroyo forget what pitching even looks like.

God hates Cincinnati...

Need another starter and another closer/decent bullpen arm.

The problem was we just underestimated how bad it was last year.

I think it will get better with Kep and Hairston returning to the lineup. We need those guys.

I heard Arroyo got lit up the other night. 10 runs on what was it--11 hits?!?!?!!?!!??!? In 1+ inning(s)?????? That's not what the Reds were hoping for.

Whoops--there I go again, Dunn. Talking baseball. My bad.

Where else can you go see a baseball game in a nice stadium and buy tickets for next to nothing?

My buddy has 4 diamond seats thru his company and he said he has trouble giving them away. The next time you see a Reds home game on TV and have a view behind the pitcher, look right of the catcher in row 1 and those are his sometimes empty $200 a pop seats.

SF, once I sat in Jack Nicholson's seats when the Clippers were playing the Hawks at Staples Center (Lakers and Clips share the arena). It just wasn't the same with all those Laker banners on the walls...its like front row at an execution.

Wrong again jeffie. I've lurked here a while and have not posted because I live quite a ways away from the area and don't get to see many games. So I value the opinions of the team and players from the folks here, who don't seem to be too homerish. I responded on the other thread to something murf said that seemed to rub me the wrong way. Was it a little knee jerk perhaps, but that is a touchy subject for me. Then you chimed in with your normal worthless jibber jabber so I gave you a little b-slap which you appear to enjoy. Tell me something jefferina why is that the majority of your smack revolves around gay jokes or male genitalia? Are you subconsciencely trying to tell us something? If so we're not interested.

And boy are you bitter, I tought you people were supposed to be jolly!
Now that deserves one of your pattened LMMFAO's.

Have a nice weekend in the castro.

What's wrong with Reds?

Good point Dunn. This world needs more people like Tom Browning. He's one of my favorites ever since he threw his perfect game vs the Dodgers. Dodgers are on the top of my hate list above Osama Bin Laden and child molesters.

Here's one of the most underrated guys ever to throw a baseball: Mario Soto.
54 Complete Games 1981-1984. Fuching Amazing. Some of those were losses. Career cut short or he's a shoe-in for HOF status.

Griffey and Dunn must go.

Amazing pitching story...

"Just how rare was the no-hitter in a losing cause that the Angels threw in Saturday's 1-0 setback to the area-rival Dodgers? The unwanted feat had been accomplished just four times previously in major league history, the last time by Boston's Matt Young in a 2-1 loss at Cleveland on April 16, 1992.

The game cannot be officially classified a no-hitter, since the homestanding Dodgers did not go to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The lone run came as a result of two Anaheim errors in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pitcher Jered Weaver allowed the Dodgers' Matt Kemp to reach first when he mishandled a dribbler back to the mound. Kemp promptly stole second, took third on Angels catcher Jeff Mathis' errant throw to the base, and crossed the plate on Blake DeWitt's sacrifice fly.

"I have no excuses, I should have made the play," said Weaver on his error. The Angels starter struck out six and walked three before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. Jose Arredondo kept the Dodgers hitless over the next two frames.

The Angels have had eight no-hitters in their 48-year history, but none since Mark Langston and Mike Witt combined to blank Seattle on April 11, 1990. Not surprisingly, Nolan Ryan has the most in club annals, with four of his record seven no-no's having come during his time with the Halos"

Jim Abbott threw a no-no in 1993 but it was with the Yankees.

Jeff Weaver kicks ass. He's lucky to have a great manager in Mike Scioscia.

Remember when Browning went up on the roof at Wrigley during a game and partied with the fans. That was classic. It was so funny he only got a joke of a fine that he probably didn't even have to pay.

I was there...

July 10 2008, 5:00 PM

Saw that game at Wrigley. It was hysterical. That was in the days when Chicago fans actually liked the Reds. Maybe "liked" is the wrong word, how about "had respect for" the Reds? I was there the day Pete Rose tied Cobb. Normally Cub fans loved to boo Pete Rose. That day he got a 10 minute standing ovation.

Now Marty Brennaman has Cub fans hating Cincinnati again. Which, I guess, is the way it should be afterall...

Why hate a team that isn't very good? Its easy to hate the Yankees and Red Sox. Easy to hate the Dodgers of the 70s and Braves of the 90s but the current Reds? Don't get it.

Last time in Chicago

No score for this post
July 12 2008, 7:41 PM

I guess it was a month or so ago, Marty really came down on Cub fans as classless and the worst fans in baseball. (They were throwing balls onto the outfield grass after a Reds home run). He made the comment something to the effect of this is why you like to see the Cubs lose...because the fans here are the worst in baseball. And since its the Cubs, you know end the end they will lose. He ranted on and on. They played it on several radio and TV stations here for a few weeks after that, and then again before the Red's most recent trip to Wrigley. That's why the animosity is back. Has nothing to do with how bad the Reds are. It has to do with Marty pissin' 'em off!

After a previous 9 year stint in the windy city before moving down here to Texas - I went to several Cubs games including most of the Reds games when they came to town. The a-holes sit in the bleachers. The good true fans who have been loyal sit in the regular seats. The A-holes in the bleachers are a bunch of young kids who take off thier shirts, get drunk, and yell at the players. Most are bandwagoners or have no idea who any of the players are.

The bleachers used to be the cheapest ticket in the house and were the tickets given away to youth baseball teams......but that was before Wrigleyville became popular.

Its basically the same atmosphere the Reds want to copy, but cant since there are no bars around the stadium to keep the young crowd there after the games

...now if they got a casino and some strippers down there.....
