How do I get the yellow out of old decals?

I'm building an old kit from the seventies and would like to remove the yellow tint from the kit decals before I apply them.

I recall in a post some time ago, someone told how to remove the yellowish tint from old decals, still on the decal paper, simply by exposing them for an extended period to light from a florescent bulb. At least I believe that's what the suggestion was. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Any one have any other suggestions how one might get the yellow out of old decals still on the sheet?

Any additional tips or suggestions concerning the application of old decals are welcome as well.

TIA
Peter
