What can I use as a substitute for tamiya lacquer?

Hi, in Adam Wilder's article in issue 40 of AFV Modeller he recommended using tamiya's lacquer based thinner, rather than isoproponal based thinner, for a smoother finish when spraying tamiya acrylics. Tamiya's lacquer thinner (yellow cap) is though quite hard to get hold of in the UK. I wanted to know if anyone has tried using acrylic lacquer which car sprayers use for thinning their paint? Is this essentially the same as tamiya's and is there anything I should look out for?

If it is ok to use some of the car sprayer stuff that would be great as examples I've seen on the internet are usualy cheaper than the tamiya lacquer.

Cheers,

Owen
