We traveled to Myanmar in the summer of 2000 using Mr. Shein to prepare an itinerary for us, and arrange hotels and transportation. His service was excellent, and we had a fantastic time there. All hotel booking, transportation (including train, boat, plane and private car and driver) were better than expected. The sights in Myanmar are truly wonderful - we went to Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan - and the people even nicer. All the arrangements were made through the internet, and we would strongly recommend his services. Any questions regarding the trip can be sent to Philip - email pineapple.bay@gte.net. Happy trails!

With the recent boarder clashes happening between Thailand and Burma, is it safe to travel to Burma or even north Thaioand at this time? February 2001

The problems along the Thai-Myanmar border have been coming and going since long time ago. Some blame the drugs production and trading. Some blame the military government in Myanmar. This story goes back to many hundreds of years.

It is safe to travel to Myanmar ( to the permitted tourist areas not including Tachileik ) and Thailand. Northern Thailand is also safe. However it is advised to avoide the areas along the border: north-east of Mae Hong Son and Chiang Rai till the things get better. Especially the highways running parallel to the border, Mae Sai, and some villages there.
Mae Sai- Tachileik border crossing is temporarily closed now.
